    • Cal (1984) Director: Pat O’Connor. Cal opens like a slasher horror film, using a tracking shot of a killer’s point of view as a car drives to the house of a member of the Royal Ulster Constabulary before an unseen gunman shoots him dead.
    • Elephant (1989) Director: Alan Clarke. Alan Clarke’s second TV film about the Troubles, following Contact (1985), is his bleakest and most unrelenting work.
