    Producer Bill Kong had first become friends with Anita Mui during the 1980s, after Mui helped his then-fledgling film company, Edko, successfully promote The Adventures of Milo and Otis (1986) in Hong Kong. Years later, Mui asked Kong to help her get an impactful, memorable movie role in return.
