Oct 25, 2023 · 侯孝賢導演曾執導《悲情城市》、《戲夢人生》、《千禧曼波》等多部獲得國際影展肯定的電影，是台灣新浪潮電影時期的重要代表人物。 然而根據《IndieWire》報導，10 月 23 日，電影學者托尼雷恩斯（Tony Rayns）在倫敦花園電影展放映侯導 1985 年的電影《童年往事》在引言時，他稱侯孝賢現已退休。 隨後侯孝賢熟識友人，同時也是「花園電影」策展人喬治·克羅斯韋特也向《IndieWire》證實導演「肯定不會再工作。 弔詭的是，《IndieWire》稱侯導退休消息對台灣來說可能不會太驚訝，因為他在台北的辦公室已經關閉，可事實上導演與家人、工作團隊並沒有對外宣傳此事，我們還是很驚訝！
