    Early acting career

    After graduating LAMDA, Anthony made his stage debut with HV Neilson's Shakespearean touring company in Macbeth at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea, February 1938. He first appeared on the screen in the 1946 film They Flew Through Sand.

    Dad's Army

    Anthony first appeared as a war office brigadier in the lost third second series episode, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker and then as the Colonel in the second ninth series episode, The Making of Private Pike. In the radio version of The Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker, Anthony's character was played by Jack Watson. He also played Charles Hunter in the original pilot of Dad's Army's radio spin-off, It Sticks Out Half a Mile.
