If I remember correctly the accidents that caused the deaths were all vehicles that had been rear-ended at higher speeds. The vehicles did meet Federal Motor Vehicle standards that were in place at the time.

While neither car will make any top 100 list, the Vega has a disposable aluminum engine that with luck lasted 40,000 miles. The Pinto engine is still with us in its basic form. I'm in the middle of changing my 1983 4x4 ranger carburator motor -- to a 1988 ranger motor with fuel injection ... 2.3 is a great motor... if you get one from a 83 or earlyer without fuel injection , it should bolt right in or maybe just change your exhaust manifold and motor mounts.

  8. after experiencing catastrophic brake failure in my 10 month old feh we never used it again!!! ford never admitted there was a problem, and we refused to take back the car. we were lucky that after six months the ford dealership sold it. i admire folks who have the courage to trust the car after experiencing brake failure...i felt way too wimpy ...
