Gateway was an American jazz trio formed in 1975. The members were guitarist John Abercrombie, bassist Dave Holland, and drummer Jack DeJohnette. The group has also joined Collin Walcott on his debut album Cloud Dance (ECM 1062) recorded in 1975.

Avenged Sevenfold and Children of Bodom were my gateway bands - my friend had me listening to a couple of songs sometime in middle school and I was hooked. Trashed, Lost & Strungout was the first song I listened to IIRC.

Slipknot is a legitimate band, and some of their songs are brutal AF even in the face of Death Metal (Like Birth Of The Cruel or Gematria), and I listen to a lot of Slipknot and still headbang and get into as much as I did on the first day.
