Apr 15, 2022 · Finished Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum 30 minutes ago and my heart is still racing. Movie Review. LOVED THIS MOVIE. Im relatively new to horror and have been watching the recommended found footage films on here. I enjoyed both REC and V/H/S but outside of the last 15 minutes of REC I was only moderately scared throughout.

In the movie, the calligraphy hanging on the wall translates as "The Literate (Reading) People, 1970.11.03, written and presented by President Park Chung-Hee." Park initiated the military coup in 1961 to came into power, and was assassinated in 1979.

I judge a film as genuinely scary if it makes me feel like I have to look behind me... you know, to check for monsters lol. Gonjiam (2018) had at least two really great moments where I was definitely checking my blind spots. This was the first movie that genuinely freaked me out since I first saw Last Shift back in 2015.
