Biography. I obtained my PhD in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Simon Fraser University (Canada, 2015). My research was an ethnographic study of hospital palliative care specialists and patients, and how they collectively negotiated the dying process within increasingly complex health systems.

Dr Marian Krawczyk. Project Title: A new approach to suffering in life-limiting illness: Total pain, embodiment, and the human microbiome. What does our gut bacteria have to do with how we experience pain? As a medical anthropologist, I am interested in exploring this question with people who commonly report complex and hard to treat pain.
