    The school librarian, Madam Pince stated that it is "pawed about, dribbled on and generally maltreated nearly every day" although the Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore stated that this was praise for a book. The copy in question was protected by the Thief's Curse. It was published by Whizz Hard Books. Rita Skeeter's review of the book stated: "I've read worse."

    Erika Rath's father gave his daughter a copy of the book for her birthday some time before she attended Hogwarts in the early 1980s.
