The Seoul Detention Center (Korean: 서울구치소; Hanja:서울拘置所, alternatively Seoul Prison) [1] is a prison in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, [2] operated by the Korea Correctional Service.
Seoul Detention Center (Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province) - Opened in July 1967, it was the first pretrial detention center in South Korea. The Seoul Detention Center housed former President Park Geun-hye following her arrest in 2017.
One of the main places to visit at Seodaemun Independence Park is the museum, Seodaemun Prison History Hall. Seodaemun Prison was built by the Japanese Empire to house political prisoners and independence activists during the Japanese occupation (1910-1945).
Detention Centers have been established and operated for the detention of unconvicted prisoners. Since July 1967, when the Seoul Detention Center took responsibility of detention function for the first time in Korea, 11 detention centers have been operated at present.

Seodaemun Prison History Hall (Korean: 서대문형무소역사관) is a museum and former prison in Seodaemun District, Seoul, South Korea. It was constructed beginning in 1907. The prison was opened on October 21, 1908, under the name Gyeongseong Gamok. During the early part of the Japanese colonial period it was known as Keijo Prison[1] (Keijō Kangoku).
