This tool looks really handy for analyzing some of the questionable songs to see what the actual bitrate is. The app was last updated years ago and doesn’t run in the latest MacOS version.
Sep 23, 2018 · Thanks in advance guys! A basic rule of thumb is to look for "shelving", which is the horizontal line that cuts across the colours on the graph. A song looks good if the "shelf" is at around 20khz or above. True lossless files will have no shelving, the peaks of the song should hit the top of the graph.

Mar 22, 2023 · The most common reason to use Spek is to figure out if a lossless audio file is really lossless by checking the cutoff frequency (typically 15-16 KHz cutoff is not lossless audio), or maybe the compression levels of the audio, or something. There's lots of reasons to use one.
