Mar 8, 2013 · I think it's because you're comparing newer anime with older western cartoons. Older anime males fit the macho stereotype, just like older western cartoons (e.g. Dragon Ball Z, Fist of the North Star) Today, it seems that even worldwide the androgynous trend is really catching on.
