    The series was first announced by Ryan Murphy on his Instagram and later confirmed by FX, with FX chairman John Landgraf announcing the premiere for July, 2021 on FX on Hulu.

    Murphy announced that the series will feature 16 episodes and that many cast members from the original series will be part of it. The episode count for the first installment was later reduced to 7.

    On August 4th, 2020, during a Netflix panel for her upcoming series Ratched, Sarah Paulson announced that she would be directing the series. However, this never materialized likely due to conflicting schedules.

    The posters for the first season contain hidden clues to then upcoming AHS: Double Feature.

    In August 2021, the series was renewed for a second season, ahead of the first season' finale.
