At the Gates is a pioneer of Gothenburg-style melodic death metal, formed in 1990 and reformed in 2010. The band has released six albums, including Slaughter of the Soul (1995), and toured extensively worldwide.
At the Gates, along with Dark Tranquillity and In Flames, pioneered what is now known as melodic death metal, or the Gothenburg sound (since all of them came from that city).
