Clerkenwell ( / ˈklɑːrkənwɛl /) is an area of central London, England. Clerkenwell was an ancient parish from the medieval period onwards, and now forms the south-western part of the London Borough of Islington. The church of St James in Clerkenwell Close and nearby Clerkenwell Green sit at the center of Clerkenwell.

Clerkenwell, neighbourhood in the inner borough of Islington, London. It is composed of the parishes of St. James and St. John. The area developed around the Nunnery of St. Mary (replaced by St. James, Clerkenwell Green, in 1792) and the Priory of St. John of Jerusalem, both founded in the 12th.
