A deadlock detected by the database will effectively rollback the transaction in which you were running (if any), while the connection is kept open in .NET. Retrying that operation (in that same connection), means it will be executed in a transactionless context and this could lead to data corruption.

So the current thread is literally blocked waiting for the task to complete. As a general rule, you should use " async all the way down"; that is, don't block on async code.

The main difference between livelock and deadlock is that threads are not going to be blocked, instead they will try to respond to each other continuously. In this image, both circles (threads or processes) will try to give space to the other by moving left and right. But they can't move any further.
Oct 1, 2009 · A deadlock can happen for many many reasons so you would have to do a little bit of homework first if you want to be helped and tell us what is causing the deadlock, ie. what are the batches involve din the deadlock executing, what resources are involved and so on and so forth.
