Sure, its better when all three of them (hislop,merton and deayton) are on the show but by no means should merton get so arrogant about himself, he seems to think he makes the show what it is (well, he does partly, but not as much as he thinks)
Oct 7, 2023 · Have I Got News For You. Paul Merton's badge was plugging his appearance on Celebrity Antiques Road Trip next Tuesday. Yes it said Tuesday 10th October 7pm BBC TWO. That'll confuse the Dave audience in 18 months from now. Great to have the show back!
May 20, 2006 · If asked to name five comedians, you might get Gervais, Kay, Elton, Carrot, Brown and Evans, all well known for a certain type of comedy. I'd imagine that only fans would name Merton. I reckon he prefers it that way. It was called 'Paul Merton - The Series' and was hilarious.
Dec 23, 2008 · Paul Merton is one of those reactive comedians, not a natural comic- he relies on the interplay between him and another for his product. This point is clearly illustrated when Springer was on the show- he riles Paul a little- give a little arm burn and head rub- Paul reacted brilliantly and was funny.

His step-by-step account was indignant with the injustice done to him and the fact he’s director of this meant the tale was given virtually the whole hour to be told in whereas another director would’ve cut it short.
May 22, 2010 · I agree that Paul Merton is usually terrible away from this programme, the sketch show was awful, the Hancock remakes were awful the China travel series is terrible (what an unadverturous closed-minded wimp he is, completely the wrong sort of person for a travel show). The only exception has been the docs he did on silent comedy which were good.
Feb 20, 2007 · I think Paul Merton is funny on HIGNFY, but I don't rate the other stuff he's done. And I blame him for Angus having to leave. Obviously a personality clash there. I started noticing Paul's comments towards Angus becoming particularly barbed after Caroline Quentin's appearances on the show.
