  3. The City of San Augustine is the county seat of San Augustine County in Deep East Texas, east of Nacogdoches, south of the City of Center and west of Toledo Bend Reservoir. The first European settlement in the area began in 1717 with the establishment of Mission Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de los Ais by Spanish missionaries.
