Washington is a city in Ozan Township, Hempstead County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 180 at the 2010 census, [4] up from 148 in 2000. It is part of the Hope Micropolitan Statistical Area. The city is home to Historic Washington State Park.
Washington was established as the first county seat in 1824. It was located on the rugged Southwest Trail (the earliest road across the state) and, because of its proximity to the [then Mexican] border, was a stopover for those (such as Sam Houston and Davy Crockett) traveling west.
What to know. An important stop on the Southwest Trail, James Bowie, Sam Houston, and Davy Crockett famously traveled through here. James Black, a local blacksmith, actually forged the legendary Bowie knife.

The Historic Washington State Park of the Arkansas State Parks is absolutely incredible! A jewel of a historic park that reminds me of some of the preserved colonial settlements I visited in my childhood in New England.
