In 2022, 164 SOTA students sat for the IB examinations, with a 100% pass rate in both the IBDP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) and IBCP (International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme). SOTA’s IBDP students obtained an average score of 39.7 points, with more than 50% scoring 40 points and above.
Unlike LASALLE and NAFA, SOTA is a pre-tertiary school, which means that it accepts students from the age of 13. Graduates from SOTA can use their IB diploma qualifications to apply for entry into tertiary arts institutions such as LASALLE and NAFA. (However, SOTA graduates are not limited to an arts education; see Myth 6 below.)

Oct 2, 2010 · My friend informed me that during the Open House, there was a talk given and they mentioned kids must get at least aggregate 230 during their PSLE to get into SOTA. Anyhow my dd got into SOTA via DSA (confirmed place) and after the PSLE exams saga was over, we all began to worry if she would make it for the COP (as stated above)
There are no easy answers to these questions, but perhaps, hearing from SOTA students themselves will help parents to better recognise what passion might look like in a young person. Going by procedure, students should apply for NUS High and SST through the Ministry of Education’s DSA portal, while SOTA and the Singapore Sports School have their own admissions process and timelines. Note: NUS High and SST may conduct a Supplementary Intake Exercise at year end, if there are vacancies.
Interestingly, I believe SOTA wanted to see sketches. The sketchbook should contain rough sketches, hand drawings, illustrations etc. which form the basis for the eventual art pieces. I think the schools see it as an artists’ way of doodling and believe it or not, they can discern skills (esp. in free drawing, expression and textures) from a sketchbook.
School of the Arts (SOTA) If your child wishes to pursue his or her studies in the above schools, then it is a must to apply for the DSA. However, for SOTA, students are not required to apply via the Ministry of Education’s DSA portal. Instead, they should apply through SOTA’s Talent Academy.
