Jan 22, 2004 · TAP launched the route when MFM was opened (1995?) with two weekly LIS-BKK-MFM A340 services. It was purely a political operation to show case the colonial power in its last few years in the region. I remember seeing a photo of the opening of MFM and TAP actually had TWO of its A340s down at MFM - definetly showing off its presence in its colony.
Dec 31, 2023 · Some people here think that that TAP's filling up planes and expanding because of all the expats moving to Portugal. That is just crazy and untrue... The true reason is that Portugal as a destination is in fashion atm... that is what is accelerating NA growth.. and not the 1% that want to move here.

Sep 1, 2024 · Reports that Lufthansa Group is seeking to purchase 19.9 percent stake in TAP Air Portugal. According to the reports LH Group wants to avoid purchasing a controlling stake in TAP so it won’t require approval from the European Commission, similar to what Air France/KLM just did with SAS.

TAP under AF/KLM gives TAP a more prominent, contributory place for sustained growth. Opposite. LH group is weakest in the Iberian Peninsula of the three mega carriers. TP would be more prominent in the LH group.

I don't know whather it is also called SPA in passenger aviation, but in the cargo business it means that e.g. LH and CX set up a SPA, including that cargo under LH airwaybill can be transported on a CX flight HKG-TPE for a defined rate of 1.00usd/kg while CX can fly it's cargo on LH's FRA-Bilbao ...
