- The city is literally cool. The city lies on a river basin surrounded by the Parahyangan mountains. Temperatures are considerably cooler, which made our exploration of the city enjoyable.
- Pick up local designs at Jeans street. As soon as we touched down, we headed to Cihampelas Walk – known as Jeans street to tourists who may have difficulty pronouncing its name.
- Visit the sea of blue. Kawah Putih (meaning “white crater” in Indonesian) is a crater lake of staggering beauty that lies 50km south of Bandung. This stunning lake of pale turquoise is highly acidic (pH 0.5-1.3) so do not even think about dipping your toes in the water.
- Go Strawberry Hunting. Whenever you visit a volcano, you’re bound to see miles of surrounding plantations. This is because of the breakdown of minerals; composites of volcanic residue that are highly beneficial for plants.
Home to 2.5 million people, Bandung is the 3rd biggest city in Indonesia with a lively yet relaxing vibe. On arrival, make sure you get to familiarise yourself with the city’s four main coordinates. The airport is located at the West point where most industrial and residential areas are.

If you’re already in Java, the best way to get to Bandung is by train. Not only are train rides around the island incredibly scenic, but they’re also very comfortable. Bandung has a small airport and getting there by plane is possible from other parts of Java and Indonesia as well as Singapore and Kuala Lumpur served by AirAsia. Another option is to get to Jakarta Airport, which sits roughly 3 hours away from Bandung. From there, you can take a bus to Bandung directly at the airport or take public transport to Gandir Train Station and catch a scenic train ride to Bandung city center.
