Deep Rising is a movie that knows what it wants to do, and does it well, adding some originality and excitement to a genre overflowing with badly-executed ideas and ameatuerish directing. I give Deep Rising a 6 out of 10, and I'd reccomend it to any fan of grade-B horror movies or anyone who enjoyed the 1999 remake of The Mummy.
This film went over a year in post-production because it took a while to figure out how to do the various special effects for the monsters. Kevin O'Connor wore pads for the scene where the mercenaries take turns hitting and kicking him, but at the end of the shooting day he was covered in bruises.

If you need a film to be a character study or you want senseless action from start to finish then you might be one of the people who is disappointed. But if you are looking for a gripping story with great tension and action that can be enjoyed by a wide range then go see this film.
