Feb 18, 2024 · Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage City, history lovers will really appreciate visiting Buyeo. The city has a beautiful harmony between nature and humans, with both having lived side by side for centuries, with temples and palaces built in and around the mountains, rivers, and fields.
Buyeo [1] (Korean: 부여; Korean pronunciation:; Chinese: 夫餘/扶餘; pinyin: Fūyú/Fúyú), also rendered as Puyŏ [2] [3] or Fuyu, [1] [3] [4] [5] was an ancient kingdom that was centered in northern Manchuria in modern-day northeast China.
Often simply referred to as Buyeo, this idyllic countryside town in South Chungcheong Province is known for its rich cultural significance. You can also get there easily via car; it’s just an hour’s drive from the major city of Daejeon. So, you can easily weave a short Buyeo trip into your itinerary!
- Jeongnimsa Temple Site. Jeongnimsa Temple Site is a historical site located in Buyeo, South Korea. It dates back to the Baekje era, one of the three ancient kingdoms of Korea.
- Baekje Cultural Land. Baekje Cultural Land is a historical park that showcases the culture and architecture of the Baekje dynasty, which ruled Korea from 18 BC to 660 AD.
- Buyeo National Museum. Buyeo National Museum is a history museum located in Buyeo County, South Korea, that showcases the cultural heritage of the Baekje dynasty.
- Nakhwaam Rock. Nakhwaam Rock is a historic and sacred site located in Buyeo, South Korea. It’s a large rock that overlooks the Geum River and is known for its association with the tragic tale of Queen Seondeok.
- Busosanseong Fortress. This is the only thing you’ll have to pay for in Buyeo, at around 1,500krw ($1) and it gets you access to half the things to do in Buyeo!
- Goransa Temple. This is probably one of the more interesting temples I’ve seen but prepare for a fair bit of stair climbing. This temple is actually on a river and you have to climb down to it (and consequently back up once you’re done).
- Nakhwaam. Perhaps the best view in all of Buyeo, it’s somewhat on the way to Goransa so it’s worth a stop if it’s not too full of people. It’s a small pavilion on an outcropping of rock dedicated to the women who threw themselves off the rock in order to remain loyal to Korea when it was invaded.
- Buyeo National Museum. If you’re looking for some insight to the Baekje history and culture, this is a great free option. Of the three kingdoms, Shilla (best learned about in Gyeongju) and Goguryeo (modern day Seoul) get talked about significantly more.
Apr 28, 2018 · Head to Buyeo To Explore Korean History. Buyeo is the perfect destination for a day trip from Seoul or wherever you live in South Korea. It’s a nice little town to enjoy nature and learn something about the history of Korea’s Baekje era.
Buyeo is a city in Chungcheongnam-do. It is an administrative district that accounts for 7.6% of the total area of Chungcheongnam-do, and consists of 1 town and 15 myeon, and Buyeo-gun has a population of about 69,000, which is 3.2% of the total population of Chungcheongnam-do.
