Maya the Bee (German: Die Biene Maja) is the main character in The Adventures of Maya the Bee, a German book written by Waldemar Bonsels and published in 1912. The book has been published in many other languages and adapted into different media.

Maya is the main Protagonist of Maya the Bee. She is a young bee with yellow curly hair, yellow and black stripes and green eyes. She has a best friend named Willy. She is kind, good-natured, helpful and generous.
Some examples are:
•Help Max find out what noise was in his tunnel. •Help Barry get his glasses out of the ball of propolis. •Help a worm named Philibert find a new fruit to live in. •Help Willy overcome his fear of “Shadow Creepies”. •Help fix Shelby’s shell.
•In the episode Jealousy, she has a crush on Willy.
•In the first movie, she believes that Buzzlina who took the royal jelly made the Queen pass away but she saved her from Buzzlina.
•In the comics, she had orange hair instead of her usual blond.
•In the anime, Maya isn’t afraid of using her stinger for self defense or a warning to any threat. This is toned down in the 2012 tv series and movies where Maya would never use her stinger to protect herself. since Studio 100 wanted to make the 2012 series and movies as family-friendly as possible
•In the movie, she is banished from the hive by Buzzlina for not following the rules, but it doesn’t last since The Queen had no agreement.
•In season 2, her personality changes.
