Qasar was one of the three full brothers of Genghis Khan and the founder of the Left Wing of the Mongol Empire. He conquered Manchuria, Korea and parts of Russia, and his descendants were involved in various conflicts and dynasties in Asia.

Jamak bermaksud menghimpunkan. Dari segi bahasa, jamak adalah perkataan Arab yang bermaksud menghimpunkan atau mengumpulkan sesuatu yang berselerak. Dalam hal solat, ia bermaksud menghimpunkan dua waktu solat fardudengan melakukannya dalam satu waktu.
Qasar bermaksud memendekkan solat.Contohnya daripada empat rakaat dipendekkan menjadi dua rakaat. Solat yang boleh dipendekkan menjadi dua rakaat ialah Solat Isyak, Zohor dan Asar. Solat Qasar juga boleh digabungkan dengan Jamak, iaitu dengan memendekkan jumlah rakaat serta menghimpun solat-solat tersebut.
Solat tamam merujuk kepada melaksanakan solat dengan lengkap tanpa mengambil rukhsah (kemudahan) qasar.
