Sandgate is a village in the Folkestone and Hythe Urban Area in the Folkestone and Hythe district of Kent, England. It had a population of 4,225 at the 2001 census. [2] It is the site of Sandgate Castle, a Device Fort. H. G. Wells lived at Spade House, and it is also the birthplace of comedian Hattie Jacques.
Despite its size—spanning two miles of coastline and extending inland over steep wooded hills—Sandgate boasts a captivating history. From the times of Henry VIII to encounters with smugglers, the looming threat of Napoleonic invasion, and crucial military roles in two world wars, the village has played a role in significant historical events.
- Foodyfromlondon. 174 contributions. Bracing walk in January with great views. The views were amazing. For runners, cyclists or those with prams very flat. The walk from Sandgate to Folkestone along the sea took us about 40 mins, ok on way there but v v v blustery on way back.

Sandgate beach (outside the Folkestone Rowing Club we mean) is a pebble beach midway between Hythe and Folkestone. There is a slipway for canoes/boats. You can walk and cycle all the way along from Hythe to Folkestone on the parade (seafront).
