Zhu Wei is the world’s most renowned contemporary Chinese ink painter and the art form’s most important explorer. He is also among the very first group of distinguished contemporary Chinese artists recognized by the international art audience in the nineties of the 2 0th century.
Images of peasant workers, figures from his previous ink painting series such as the Festival series and the Heavenly Maiden Scattering Flowers series as well as his records of the SARS event appear in the prints, revealing the artist’s concerns with society and the real sentiments of common people.
Zhu Wei is the first mainland Chinese artist to be invited onto STPI’s Visiting Artist programme (VAP). Working with STPI’s international print- and paper-making team in March and April 2004, Zhu Wei produced a series of 8 etchings and 7 woodcuts.
