  3. De La Salle School is one of the six Christian Brothers’ School of the De La Salle Order in Singapore. It started as a boys’ school in Kampong Bahru in 1952. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the first Lasalle Brothers to Asia in 1852, the school was named after the founder, St John Baptist De La Salle.

  6. De La Salle School in Kampong Bahru opened its classrooms in January 1952 under the charge of Rev Bro Thomas, Headmaster and Director. The first batch of teachers and pupils came on transfer from SJI. There were 7 teachers and 196 boys in seven classes, from Primary 1 to Standard 5.

    The Brothers of the Christian Schools (or _De La Salle_ brothers) were invited to Singapore to establish SJI in 1852. Except for a short break of five years, they have been here since that time. They were founded in 1680 by a French priest, St. John Baptist de La Salle.
